Get involved
We have set you all the challenge to get involved with our #layeredupchallenge which involves you putting on as many layers as you can, uploading a photo to social media, nominating 5 friends to do the same and donating £5 to Save the Children charity through our JustGiving link.
About the #keepthelifelinecampaign:
The government is due to take more than £1,000 a year away from families on Universal Credit in April. Many of them are in work. They’re the supermarket workers, delivery drivers and care workers who have kept our country running for us.
No child deserves to go hungry because the pandemic took their parent’s job away. Or miss out on learning because their family can’t afford a laptop for lockdown. They don’t deserve to feel embarrassed when their clothes don’t fit because they’re growing fast but the heating bills are growing faster. Children should not bear the brunt of this crisis.
How you can help
Two single mums, Rebecca and Michelle, are urging the Chancellor to keep this support for families who need it most right now.
The mums have been campaigning hard to keep this issue at the forefront of the conversation in Parliament. They have met with politicians, spoken to the media and submitted evidence to the All-Party Political Group (APPG) on Poverty.
Recently, Rebecca & Michelle started a petition calling to keep the £20 lifeline and extend it to the old benefits system, where claimants are mostly people with disability.
With 10,000 signatures, the government has to reply Rebecca and Michelle’s petition. With 100,000 signatures, the mums may trigger a debate at the parliament.
Call on the Chancellor to #KeeptheLifeline by Signing & Sharing Rebecca & Michelle’s petition with your friends and family.
If the fundraiser is aged under 18, then their parent / guardian will need to register their fundraising with Save the Children on their behalf. We recommend that parents / guardians have agreed to their child partaking in the fundraising activity and that adults are present at all events where children are the fundraisers.
Save the Children registered Charity No. is 213890 (England & Wales) and SC039570 (Scotland).
