Story
Hello! It's so good to have you here. Thank you for clicking through and considering sponsoring us for this event.
Our son Zane should have been turning 13 this October in a fuss of hormones and Kevin and Perry jokes.
Sadly he doesn't get the chance, because he was robbed of his life due to a fatal gap in the antenatal screening policy of the NHS. This missing screening test is simple, quick, non invasive and available using equipment already in place. It has proven accuracy and literally could save upwards of 150 babies (likely many, many more) each year.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the UK National Screening Committee currently refuse to bring in screening, despite admitting in their own literature that the lifesaving test is accurate and could save hundreds of lives.
Zane was an otherwise healthy baby boy, born at 41 weeks in October 2006 following a huge gush of blood and a whole host of mistakes caused by lack of Vasa Praevia knowledge and training in the team who looked after me. He fought bravely for 36 hours, but his organs had started to shut down and we made the heart-wrenching decision to withdraw care and hold him as he passed away.
But it didn't have to be this way.
Vasa Praevia babies almost always survive when you know about it and manage it correctly.
But when you don't know....
The charity we are supporting, Vasa Praevia Raising Awareness is the UK charity on a mission to bring about change to policy, and awareness to the general public. Amongst other things, your money will fund vital training courses for sonographers in order to make sure scan technicians on the front lines can diagnose Vasa Praevia and save lives as a result.
Please, please dig deep in support. If everyone could donate any amount that they can afford we would be truly grateful.
Also, please share this page. It would also mean a lot, as the more people see this the quicker we will hopefully meet our target.

Huge thanks also go to Richard Singh and the Selby Hands of Hope charity who have allowed us to run in their team, but raise money for Vasa Praevia Raising Awareness.
Scott has run the GNR a few times before, but it will be a first for me. Training is going alright, but it's knowing that we're doing it for Zane and hopefully raising enough money to make a difference that is keeping our legs going for those 6am training runs! :)
