Story

Update: 1st October 2021

London Marathon 2021 is THIS weekend - Sunday 3rd October! 21 months after I originally began training.. and it WILL be worth the wait.

I may not be as well trained as I would like, my pace may be a little slower than previous years but running the iconic London Marathon has been on my wish list for so many years that I intend to enjoy every minute... whilst raising money for the amazing Helen & Douglas House.

Look out for me - number 35467 ( how cool would it have been if the 5 and 4 were the other way round!)

Update 3rd October 2020

Well its been a very bumpy year in regards to training for a marathon! As most people are probably aware the 2020 London Marathon, which was supposed to take place in April, was postponed until October. This meant easing back on the training for a while, particularly the longer runs. It was then rescheduled for the 4th October and over the summer the training increased, only to come to a sudden halt in August when the race was finally cancelled after a lot of indecision! At this point I figured my marathon journey was over for this year so booked on to another challenge for 10th October - run to the sea ultra ( a 50km run from Ringwood to Hengistbury Head).

However, the decision was then made for the London Marathon to be offered to runners virtually and to still be able to keep a place for a future London Marathon Race in either October 2021 or April 2022. This was great news but means I am now running 2 major events within a week - a small matter of 100k in a week!!

Helen & Douglas House is a children’s hospice providing a home from home for local terminally ill children and their families. They provide round-the-clock care in a warm and loving environment. Based in Oxford but supporting families from surrounding counties and as far as London, they care for babies and children up to the age of 18. Parents, brothers, sisters, and grandparents are all part of the Helen & Douglas House family. At the toughest time of their lives, families are given the time and space to enjoy the precious moments they have left with each other. In the midst of exhaustion and grief, they help them cope with their child’s final days. Your donations mean that families don’t have to face the unthinkable alone.

It costs £3.6 million a year to run the hospice, and 85% of this comes from people donations. As a charity, they rely on your support to keep their doors open. Every donation makes a big difference to the help they can offer terminally ill children and families facing the devastating loss of a child.

If you feel that you can, please sponsor me and help bring comfort and support to families going through every parent’s worst nightmare.

Thanks for your support with my London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
