Lido to Loch relay · 29 July 2023

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

In July 2023 I plan to swim the length of Loch Ness with four good friends that I regularly train with at Jesus Green Lido, which is an incredible 100 yards of outdoor lusciousness in Cambridge.

At 23 miles the Loch is longer than the English Channel and the water temperatures are lower even in the height of summer. The relay format remains the same - each swimmer completes one hour in rotation, wearing only a costume and hat, until we land.

I can’t say that I’m looking forward to spending hours in the inky black Loch, not knowing what’s underneath. However your donations to Aspire will help those who have a spinal injury - every four hours a person is paralysed in this way. Please give generously.

I plan to raise at least £1,756 this year, which would bring my overall Aspire total to £20,000 since 2011.
