Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
SUMMARY: A group of Save the Children supporters from Balsall Common, (Linda, Sue, Julia, Fiona, Nigel, Helen and Graham) have actively travelled nearly round the world. Each week we have totalled up the miles we have walked, run, cycled or swum plus there has been a bit of hiking, skiing and even three miles in a coracle. Check out the photos at the top of the page, click on the heading photo and swipe left!
We should finish early in 2024 after four years.....
WHY: The purpose was to have fun, keep fit but most of all raise as much money as possible for Save the Children. So far, we have raised £2705 but would love you to help us reach our new target of £5,000.
Since we started, wars raging in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan have added to desperate ongoing crises in Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and elsewhere, making the need for funding to save children's lives even more acute. Please give what you can. Thank you.
THE FULL STORY- In 2020 branch members, family and friends set off walking. We were responding to an initiative by Save the Children to 'walk to Syria'. After 'arriving' in Syria, we kept increasing our targets for miles and sponsorship. In 2022 we 'arrived' at Auckland, New Zealand. And on we went, via Samoa, Pitcairn Island, Isle Marquises, Pitterton Island, Belize City, Miami, Columbia, New York, Halifax (Novia Scotia), Nuuk (Greenland), Reykjavik, Torshavn (Faroe Islands), and Cape Wrath (UK!).
We have now 'actively travelled' almost round the world. We are now close to home- we expect to arrive early in 2024, having actively travelled 24,901 miles.
