We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

Thanks to everyone's generosity, Watford Football Club raised well in excess of £27,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care in 2010-11.

Whether you won a bid for a player's shirt online, bought a match ticket to our Hartlepool United 'Marie Curie Match', threw some change in a bucket or sent a text to donate, your support was superb.

If you've donated, however much and in whatever way, we offer our warmest thanks.

This JustGiving page is being left live until the summer to recognise the generosity of Hornets fans - and those from the wider football family. Take time to read some of the messages that accompany the online donations.

How did we get to > £27,000?
The club's share of ticket sales profits from the 8,950 attendance, bucket collections around the ground and donations by text message at the Hartlepool United 'Marie Curie Match', in January 2011, raised over £22,000.

There was a further £1,500+ raised by bucket collection at the Sheffield United March matchday, our game as part of the Football League's week of Marie Curie Cancer Care awareness.

Then we auctioned the match-worn shirts from the United game, with the surplus after printing costs added to the pot.

Add that to donations via this JustGiving page and that's how all Hornets achieved a wonderful five-figure amount.

And here's what Marie Curie Cancer Care had to say about our special 'Marie Curie Match' back in January...
Fabian French, Director of Fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “Watford FC and all their supporters raised a fantastic amount both on and off the pitch on Saturday.
"Their generosity will fund the work of a Marie Curie Nurse for over a year, the equivalent to over 1,200 nursing care hours.

“Marie Curie Nurses work in every Football League community across the country, giving terminally ill people the choice of being looked after at home, surrounded by their family and friends.

"The fundraising efforts of Watford FC and other Football League clubs will go a long way in ensuring that the ch
arity can continue to deliver this free nursing care and support.”

Thanks again for your support
