Wave Project pop-up challenge · 20 January 2022
It happens to coincide with my birthday that I want to help
raise £22,000 for the Wave Project. If you have iPlayer watch BBC2 Episode 13 of Rick Stein's Cornwall - last 5 minutes. This shows the Wave Project in action (don't blink as you might spot me!)
This charity enables young people who are having mental or
physical difficulties to access the ocean. I have committed to doing 22 days of practicing 'pop ups'. 1 on 1st Feb, 2 and 2nd, etc. This is just for my own benefit - might improve my surfing. But I will donate £22 myself when I get to day 22! Any other donation would be great!
A little about Wave Project in case you've not heard of us... Wave Project is a registered charity that supports children and young people who experience a range of physical and mental health issues, social deprivation or social isolation. They are referred and can attend our courses and surf clubs and are supported through surfing to build confidence and self-esteem, develop resilience, and make friends. Find out moreWhat does £22k look like, it allows for us to pay for 80 surf club/surf therapy sessions which cost £15,000 to surf schools plus the cost of core staff for those sessions, it would be fantastic to know we have the money to be able to be able to commit to these sessions.Whilst this might seem an unrealistic challenge but we really believe we can do it if we all pull together. We have 7000 volunteers, 1012 surf club parents/carers and 2039 referrers in The Wave Project, and we really need your help with this.
