Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
Over the past 12 months I have worn my Tommy's running vest with pride taking on various 10K, Half Marathons & The 2017 London Marathon.
I have never been good at running & I'm not particularly health conscience, so even the smallest of challenges (5K) is an effort for me to complete!
Follow me on Instagram (@rory090684) to see how I get on. I will be taking part in the following events in the near future:
- 03/09/17 - Northampton Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10/09/17 - The Great North Run (13.1 miles)
Please say hi to me if you spot me during a race or taking part at Parkrun on a Saturday!

Why Tommy's?
In 2015 Louise & I approached Christmas & the New Year excited, looking forward to 2016 as we had just found out we were expecting our first child. We were over the moon and had made so many plans. We had already seen the little heart beat during an early scan around 6 weeks. Unfortunately, a few days before our 12 week scan we lost our little one.
It was the most difficult experience we have ever gone through and something that still brings us to tears.
We were told 1 in 4 pregnancies end up as a miscarriage, so I’m sure if you are reading this, you will have known someone who has experienced this or experienced the heart break for yourself.
It came with little comfort that it was a common thing and you ask yourself, why us and what went wrong? Unfortunately, the medical staff had no answers. There are so many reasons why but the causes of miscarriage are not yet understood.
Being told that “it wasn’t supposed to be” or “it’s just one of those things” isn’t good enough in today’s world, which is how we first heard of Tommy’s.
Tommy’s is a charity that was setup to save babies lives. They fund research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage as well as research into stillbirth and premature birth.
There are over 100 miscarriages daily in the UK, whether this is mother
nature’s way, wouldn’t it be nice if it was preventable?
Earlier this year, Tommy’s opened Europe’s largest research centre dedicated to preventing early miscarriage in Partnership with The University of Birmingham, Warwick & Imperial College London. The three sites will run specialist clinics enabling 24,000 women per year to access treatment and support and participate in Tommy’s research studies.
It was therefore a no brainer that I wanted to be part of this and help out wherever I can, which I hope you will agree is a worthy cause.
