Bringing over another group of Chernobyl children to Wessex for recuperative care, 4 July 2014
Participants: Bringing over another group of Chernobyl children to Wessex for recuperative care
We support children and families in Ukraine to cope with the ongoing conflict

Story

These are the children who were with us for recuperative care in July 2019.  They were all aged ten and 11.  They live in the villages of Pinkovichy and Osneszhitsky, near Pinsk in the south of Belarus where radiation levels are raised.

Unfortunately the Covid-19 virus has meant that we were not able to arrange for a group of Chernobyl children to have an extended stay with us in Dorset this year.  However the virus has had a big impact on the region and we are continuing our fundraising to help the community at this very difficult time.

Life in Belarus is not easy.  Even in normal times, unemployment figures are high and wages are low.  Parents often work long hours so that they can afford to clothe and feed their children.  Living conditions can be very cramped and life is hard.

The economy is weak which means that Belarus has not been able to offer much support in these unprecedented times.  Even  the most basic equipment to help deal with the virus, such as PPE is scarce.

Wessex CCLL is helping to address these needs that are desperately needed in the Chernobyl region.

Please donate whatever you can to help us continue this important work.  If you are a tax payer it will enable us to increase your donation by a further 25%

Thank you  --  John Martindale (Wessex CCLL Chair)
