CORONA VIRUS UPDATE
The current Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in my attempt at the RACE ACROSS EUROPE being postponed until 2021. I have already spent 2 years preparing and training for this event, so it's heartbreaking to have had to change plans 90 days before the start.
But at this time the fundraising is even more needed, as events are cancelled and the charities suffer from a lack if income.
SO I will continue to push for this charity, as a result on 3rd July 2020 I will be attempting to break the Record for the most miles covered in 7 days. The current record stands at 1766.1 miles. I will be targeting 255 miles per day, I can't draft other riders, this is a solo effort, approximately 16hrs a day on the road, stopping only to feed and refill water bottles etc
This is the biggest challenge I have ever attempted!! So all the training to this point will still be useful, after this I will move to focus on the Race Across Europe 13th June 2021. My fundraising will continue and will still be live. All deposited sponsor funds so far are being held back to support the race in 2021, this years record attempt will be self funded. Please continue to donate.
THE ORIGINAL PLAN REMAINS - Just delayed
In 2021 I will be coverng 3000 miles across 7 countries, which most people would simply be happy to finish, not me! I have a target of 12 days, to beat the current record.
I have been building toward this since January 2018. In Sept 2018 I finished the Revolve 24 hr event with a total of 355miles, qualifiying for the Race Across America. The cost to enter was prohibitive, but the European version (the same distance and physical challenge with arguably better scenary) is accessible! It's been a long road to raise the required funding, but through the genorosity of my RAF Veterans netwoork, it's now a reality!
On the 14th June 2021 I will be on the start line, ready to spend up to 20 hours a day on the bike, covering 250 miles per day and in the process, giving something back for the benefit of the bereaved children of our fallen Service personnel.
I train 7 days a week, generally up to 25 hours a week, both on and off the bike. The preparation is thorough and intense, which is inevitable for such a huge task. I am leaving no stone unturned. I have been working with coaches and physiotherapist to get the best possible preparation I can and make sure my 53 yr old body can get me through this!
I still need to raise money for Scottys Little Soldiers and anything you give goes directly to the children, no admin deductions or office costs, the whole amount is for the provision of support for the children. It is the real reason for this challenge.
Please give anything you can and spread the word too.
