Story
The idea started when we were heading out for a family 5k cycle / run around Tooting common. Megan asked if she could take her £4.20 from her piggybank to give to any homeless people we saw on the way - enough to help 5 people she thought (a coin each). We said yes of course but also wanted to educate her into how to more effectively help those sleeping rough. We didn't see any homeless people that day but Megan will start the donations with her £4.20.
Having not seen their grandparents for many months they decided they would cycle the distance to Winchester and Neath - 227 miles (or 75 miles each) over the remaining three weeks of lockdown. They'll be keeping a log of each trip and hope to meet the 227 miles by 2nd December. To make it a little more challenging for Wilf, he will jog some of his 75 miles.
We chose Spires as this is a charity that helps the very people Megan cycles past on her way to school. A local homeless charity based in South London that Megan has learned about at school. They help people like David - an entrenched rough sleeper who is now in accommodation having been homeless for 10 years. He has major mental health issues, but the current situation has meant that he has finally agreed to settle into accommodation. Staff continue to work with some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
Please help Megan (and her brother's Wilf and Wyn) to hit their target.
