In May last year, after an intermittent cough, my father went to the doctors to have a check up and was referred for a chest scan.

With great shock these scans showed a 10.5cm tumour in the lung, something completely unexpected considering the lack of symptoms. 

After numerous biopsies and further scans doctors provided some positive news in that this seemed to be a benign tumour which could be removed through surgery. However when this surgery took place they found it had spread.

Further tests followed and my father was eventually diagnosed with a very rare form of soft tissue sarcoma. This is an extremely aggressive form of the disease and unfortunately very hard to treat. 

My dad remained so positive throughout and he never complained to anyone. He fought the disease to the very end however on January 15th he lost his battle in the loving arms of his family. 

It's really shocked my whole family and is something I don't think we will ever come to terms with. Considering this time last year he seemed to be a perfectly healthy individual. 

Before he passed I decided I would run the Newport half marathon for him. Something he was very proud of considering the cause and that running is so alien to me. 

My dad has been such a huge influence on my life and was such a kind, loving and supportive man.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. 

I wish to raise as much money as possible for Sarcoma UK, a charity now close to my heart. Furthermore I wish to raise awareness of this disease which truly can affect anyone at any time.
