Story

We are a group of firefighter all posted to Green Watch at Woodgate Valley Fire Station in the West Midlands.

After having a discussion round the mess table at work we were thinking of how to raise some money for the Fire Fighters Charity during this difficult time, and with lockdown ending we have decided to attempt the 3 peaks challenge in September and also a car wash.

For those of you that don't know, this consists of climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis 1345m),England (Scafell Pike 978m) and Wales (Snowdon 1085m) all with in a 24 hour period.

We will be finishing our night shift on the 9th September 2021 then travelling to Fort William (a quick 7 hour drive) for an overnight stop, ready to start up Ben Nevis at around 10am on the 10th. From there we will travel to Wasdale Head in the Lake District to attempt Scafell Pike then onwards to Snowdon to hopefully complete the challenge within the 24 hour time period.

Following on from this we also decided to do a car wash at the fire station on the 16th October.

About The Fire Fighter Charity

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist lifelong support for members of the UK’s fire services community, empowering individuals to

achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.

Through the provision of personalised support, tailored to the
specific needs of each of its beneficiaries, its expert teams deliver
the right support, in the right way, in the right place and at the right
time to ensure the best long-term results for everyone they work with.

Whatever their reason for coming to the Charity – whether they are
injured, recovering from an illness, suffering from stress or anxiety –
their teams take the time to understand each person’s mental, physical
and social needs.

Thereafter, the Charity works with each of its beneficiaries to
design a pathway of support that could include community-based support,
further advice and information, a stay at one of its residential centres
or a combination of options. The aim, however, is always the same; to
help people move forward positively in their lives.

To ensure the Charity can do this for over 5,000 people a year and to
meet the £9m cost of operating its support services, it is dependent on
regular donations from fire and rescue service personnel, past and
present, as well as the general public.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
