On Feb 24th 2019, over the space of 4 and a half days I cycled from Yate in Bristol to Paris. On track, the route was approximately 300 miles (give or take.) I did this in aid of Mind - a charity that focuses on helping those facing difficulties with their mental health. Mind do this through providing advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
The reason I decided to choose such an admirable charity to raise awareness and money for, is due to fact that suicide is currently the biggest cause of death in males between the age of 20-49. In addition to this, 1 in 15 people have attempted suicide at some point in their life. The most important statistic, however, to take notice of is between 2002 and 2012, 72% of people who died by suicide had not been in touch with their GP or health professional about these feelings in the year before their suicide.
Therefore it's important to remember that #ItsOkayToTalk , and if you know anyone who experiences problems with their mental health or is not themselves lately. Drop them a message, check how they're doing because a message can go a long way in helping somebody else feel okay.
The page will still be open for some time now, so please feel free to continue to donate :)
