Story

LATEST FUNDRAISING EVENT NEWS

On the week beginning 28th June, Year 5 will be participating in a sponsored silence. This will take place during 3 lunch sittings (3x20minutes) and monitored by Year 5 teachers.

We have chosen to do a sponsored silence to make reference to the statistic that more than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour, or family member.

We will be putting ourselves in their shoes to have a small understanding of how this may feel. From the point food is collected until children are back the playground, they will remain silent!

On Monday, we will be setting homework of a sponsorship form sheet where children will be collecting money from friends and family to donate towards the cause; this will also include a QR code of our fundraising page if they wish to donate the modern way. Children are aware of this statistic and will be able to share our reasons with those they are asking for sponsorship money from. Children will be aiming for £5 each and will be making their own contribution by doing extra chores at home.

Stop Drop and Dance Challenge!🕺💃🏽

From Monday 22nd March until Friday 26th March, Year 5 will be working together to complete a DANCE CHALLENGE!

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Children and Teachers must try to dance as much as they can in this week to achieve a total together of 60 hours!

WHEN WILL WE DANCE?

At school we will be taking regular "brain breaks" and stopping, dropping and grooving! The children will also dance for 5 minutes at home each day.

WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS FOR?

We think it is important that we stay active at school after all this time remote learning. Another reason is to raise money for AGE UK.

DONATIONS

Please help support our Year 5 danceathon and donate to the AGE UK charity.

Most people will feel lonely at some point in their lives. It’s a deeply personal experience that - in most cases - will thankfully pass. Sadly, 2.65m older people feel they have no one to turn to for help and around 3.9m older people consider TV to be their main form of company. Donating to this page will help the national Age UK to continue providing vital services that offer companionship, advice and support for older people facing later life alone.

Everyone in Year 5 think caring for the elderly, who may not have anyone else, is an important act because no one should be left alone. As well as this, the elderly have been most affected by COVID. That may be from losing a partner, or losing contact with the outside world during this time and we think it is a nice idea to support the elderly in our community and nationwide to ensure they have someone to talk to about how they are feeling. We are lucky enough to still have social interaction so we know how important it is in keeping us happy and healthy.

Here are some of the reasons Year 5 ask you to support their charity:

“Age UK is a good charity because some elderly people are lonely and they will need some company”.

“I think Age UK is a good charity because they will take care of the elderly”.

“Age UK will help take care of the elderly which is very important, to make sure people can live happily in that stage of their life”.

“Age UK is an important charity because it can change the life of an elderly person and brighten up their world.”

“I think the Pandemic has really affected the elderly people, so we should help them in these difficult times.”

“ Age UK doesn’t only help elderly people, but it will help us at some point. Eventually we will get old and will perhaps need and be thankful for this charity.”

“ Some elderly people are all alone. They eat by themselves, do the household chores by themselves, be by themselves a lot of the time. It must be hard for them with no help and no company.”
