Story

We are delighted to be putting forward a team of digital marketing professionals from our Liverpool offices, out of their comfort zones to take on the Tough Mudder challengeand raise money for homeless and housing charity, The Whitechapel Centre.

Established in Liverpool in 1975, The Whitechapel Centre started out as a day centre offering hot meals, washing facilities and a safe haven to the homeless people of the city.

Since then, The Whitechapel Centre has developed its services, facilities and expertise to become a widely respected and powerful advocate for the city’s most vulnerable men, women and children who, for varied and often complex reasons, have found themselves without a home.

Ruth McCaughley, Fundraising Manager at The Whitechapel Centre said:“ Homelessness is increasing rapidly across the UK. Since 2011, the Whitechapel Centre has seen the numbers of people needing help in the region swell by astaggering 42%. We are thrilled to hear Yoma will be taking on such a tough challenge to raise money and awareness for The Whitechapel Centre”

As Samantha Long, Manager of Content Marketing at Yoma explains:“We work with companies all over the country but as an employer and a business we’re very much rooted in the diverse community of the North West.

The Whitechapel Centre are there to help vulnerable people who’ve found themselves on the fringes of this community find their way back into the heart of it. They do amazing work and that’s why we’ve chosen to raise money for them this September.

I think it’s fair to say the team are pretty nervous about taking on Tough Mudder, it’s not for the faint-hearted but we’re hoping that our families, friends and clients will all make the pain worth it by sponsoring the ‘Yo-Mudder’ team via our Just Giving page.”

This is not the first time the staff at Yoma have taken time out from busy schedules to support local charities. In 2015, they raised funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Zoe’s Place baby hospice, but it is the first time they’ve taken on such a physically demanding challenge.

Tough Mudder North West is a 10-12 mile slog over tough obstacles through ‘the UK’s thickest, darkest and sloppiest mud’, on a course that has been designed to push the physical and mental strength of its entrants to the absolute limits.
