The people of Gaza are experiencing catastrophic levels of food insecurity. Israel enforced a total siege and blockade on Gaza, refusing entry of vital aid such as food and medical supplies. Recently, Islamic Relief has been able to successfully resume the distribution of hot meals and we are distributing at a shelter in Gaza City that is hosting displaced people including children, 70% of whom are battling cancer. With a limited supply of food entering Gaza, Islamic Relief has explored every avenue to secure supplies locally to continue urgently needed humanitarian aid, alongside other interventions such as the provision of clean drinking water, maternal health services, psychosocial support, cash distributions and orphan care. Due to the scarcity of supplies, the cost of the limited food available in the markets has increased exponentially, making it even harder to obtain.
