Story
Hi
I did it - I cycled 350 kms across Cuba with 17 others ranging from 22 to 60 year olds! A humbling experience meeting people who were cycling with me who had really been affected by cancer , either themselves or their loved ones. I made some great new friends
Seeing the real Cuba by bike was facinating! We were welcomed by everyone - some even inviting us into their homes for a loo stop! better than squatting!
The heat was a little challenging initially - 32 degrees , I had never cycled in that before but I soon adapted to it! I never really adapted to the food though - rice and beans!
We even had chance for a little party in Havanna too - the mojitos made up for the rice and beans
I raised over £4000 for Yorkshire Cancer Centre with still some money to come in
This worthy cause funds specialist medical and scientific equipment, clinical research and provides patients with home from home comforts to make their hospital stay much more reassuring and positive.
I would recoomend that evryone gives something like this a go - the buzz you get from the achivement and making friends with a diverse group of people makes every bit of training and nagging for sponsorship worthwhiles
What's next? - watch this space!
Thanks so much for all your support
