A feet of marathon proportions!
Fundraising for Asha for Education
Story
Dear friends, family,
As you know (and if you do not, be glad that you have not been subjected to my "training stories" already) I will be attempting to run a marathon (26.2 miles to be precise- just as a reminder to myself) in Edinburgh on 11 June (for those of you who are non-believers that is June next month). Edinburgh is known for its hills but they have assured me that this year they have "flattened" the course.
I will be raising money for Asha for Education, a charity that is registered in the UK that raises money for the provision of basic education and other skills to underprivelged children. The specific project that I will supporting through this marathon is the Mahila Swarojgar Samiti (MSS) project based in the Varanasi area, Uttar Pradesh in India. The three main strands of this initiative include the provision of transitional education to children to help them to integrate into government schools, vocational training classes for girls from 13-20 years old and the formation and mentoring of self help groups for older women, all of which are inter-linked together. This holistic approach allows for a more effective programme aimed at empowering women of all ages to give them a greater say at the community level and more control of their lives. I am aiming to raise £3000, which is the amount required for this year by the MSS Project. Thank you to those that I have already bullied into pledging away your life savings!
