Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

And so the 5th & 6th June arrived and at 8.25am we departed mac house (Alder Hey) after a quick cup of tea and a biscuit provided by Denise we were on our way,all started off well until approx. 20miles in Gemma, after completeing 1200 miles in training with not one puncture, has a massive blowout caused by a 4 inch nail!!! Puncture repaired (By the men!!) we were off again, at 19:30hrs we finally arrived at our halfway overnight stop after some really tough hills (hills you would never find in the flat county of essex) very tired and achy. Day 2 we set off at 8:15am and although it was quite drizzly, apart from slightly sore bums we set off at a good pace deciding to ride 30 miles between stops. No mechanical issues until Owens gears decided to fly off just as we were ascending the steepest hill of the day 70 miles in. After cycling up some major A roads into london (very scary) and then navigating around London  (I would never recommend anyone cycle in London) we arrived at GOSH at 18:20hrs. I think this is the toughest most enduring thing I and probably Owen have ever done but is a massive personal achievment and all the pain was worth it to raise as much money as we have for two amazing charities!!

Every year Great Ormond Street need to raise over £50 million to help replace cramped, outdated wards with new modern facilities, provide essential equipment and fund essential research to find treatments and cures for complex and difficult illnesses. Amazing things happen at Great Ormond Street Hospital every day.

This event is in memory of Oscar James Knight who sadly passed away in July 2009 at 11 months old and having spent his short but inspirational life in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital. With the support and facilities of Mac House (http://www.justgiving.com/gemma-cotton)  his parents and family got to spend more time with Oscar than would have been possible without these facilities. Money raised will go towards helping improve the facilities and support for other families who will benefit when looking after their children in similar circumstances.

GOSH is close to where we live and friends we know have had to rely on the facilities and support that this hospital offers not only the children but also their parents and family.

Giving a little bit now may help a lot in yours, ours or someone elses future. Please help support our chosen charities.. every penny counts!!
