We unite againist breast cancer to make grants

Story

Dear friends and family

On May 17th we are going to be walking 26.2 miles through the streets of London, starting at 11pm and walking through the night, to raise money to fight breast cancer. We hope to do the walk in around 6 hours, but our fastest so far is 4 hours for 13 miles so we have a fierce training schedule to get through, covering over 200 miles each in the next few weeks.

We are walking in memory of our lovely friend Georgie Hall who was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Summer of 2002, and lived with it incredibly bravely until she died in September last year. She left such a huge gap amongst her friends, and we are just a few of those who miss her daily, but of course she left an even bigger gap as a mother. Her main worry about dying was leaving her children. As mothers ourselves, we want to pump as much money as possible into fighting the wastefully early deaths caused by breast cancer which continue to take mothers away from their children.

Luckily motherhood is also the perfect background preparation for the Moonwalk, from mental and physical exhaustion to the strange light headedness of sleepless nights which can often lead to wandering around looking spaced out wearing only your bra...

If you are able to sponsor us, please click below to donate online. It's a quick and safe way to send money straight to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and if you are a UK taxpayer an extra 28% gets reclaimed from the Chancellor's coffers.

It would be wonderful if we could help achieve that breakthrough in memory of Georgie.

Many thanks for your support.

P.S..  Jeremy Hall is ran the London Marathon in an excellent 4 hours and 24 minutes. Please follow the link to sponsor him:  http://www.justgiving.com/jeremyhalllm08  He'd like us to note that he ran rather than power walked!

21st April update: training is going better, we completed a 16 mile walk in 4 hours!

6th May update: we have all walked 20 miles in poor weather in 4hrs 45mins so we are really excited and far more confident...all done on endless munching which seems to keep the spirits up!

                                    STOP PRESS

18th May: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. We are delighted to report that the whole team completed the Moonwalk together last night. We set off arm in arm and returned in the same way to the finish line considerably worse for wear and quite emotional 7 hours later. We wore our highly decorated bras (see the new photo) and wrote 'FOR GEORGIE' in large letters across our backs. We were supported by several of the husbands en route and by Jeremy hall who appeared around midnight and 2am to urge us on, quite cheekily we thought!

We had prepared well pounding the roads around Ashford for mile upon mile, but nothing prepared us for the sheer exhaustion of walking through the night without rest. Some of us resorted to Pro Plus for the first time in 25 years, others survived on an increasingly bizare mixture of dextrose tablets, chocolate, nuts and nurofen. It would be fair to say that we all ached by the end and some of us showed really great resilience and determination to complete the course at all when injured: watch out for us hobbling around this week!

We were spured on throughout by a letter of support from Georgie's mother and a real sense of wonder and gratitude at the amazingly generous sponsorship from our friends and family. Keep checking the website for funding updates the figure is not yet complete.

We would like to say a big thank you to  Marie-Louise Johnson, Genevieve Greenwood, Alison Prall , David Poole, Gill and James Stewart, Caroline and James Morris, the Cranes, Henry and Barbara Sandford, William and Alice Garnett, Nick and Sarah Tyler, Mr and Mrs C W Taylor-Young, Mr and Mrs K A Bennett, Brigadier and Mrs Barker, Jane Alikani, Fenwicks, Mr and Mrs Mure, Sheila, Diana Bennett, PJ, the Falcons, the Andersons, Peter and Pamela Howard, Jay Bell, Paul and Patricia Smallwood, Pete and Nicky Bromley, Viv , David and Sue Morgan for their generous donations off line.
