I 'came out' as a chronie at the end of 2013 after ten long years of only discussing it with a select few people. This was really scary and uncomfortable for me but I came through it a stronger person.
Crohn's disease is an embarrassing, frightening and isolating illness. Many people are diagnosed in their teens or early twenties. I was just 18 when I found out I would have this illness for the rest of my life. There is no cure. Medications help keep the symptoms under control for the most part but carry side effects of their own. And when even medication doesn't control things surgery is the only option.
Crohn's and Colitis UK provides information and support to not only sufferers but also their families. They fund invaluable research which will hopefully, eventually lead to a breakthrough in treatment and dare I say it...... A cure!
If you are able to donate anything at all it really would mean an awful lot to me. This is a charity that really has helped me feel more knowledgeable about my Crohn's and hopeful for the future.
