Story
Hi, thanks for visiting my page!
The challenge I've set myself for 2010 is to walk from Coast to Coast- across England from the Irish Sea to the North Sea across the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and a few bits in between! I'll be completing this 200 mile walk over a number of weekends during the coming months to raise money for the Alliance for Rabies Control, with the aim of finishing for World Rabies Day in September.
Rabies kills over 150 people in Africa and Asia every day, 100 of them children. It is entirely preventable by vaccination. The Alliance for Rabies Control aims to prevent these human deaths, as well as decreasing the burden on domestic animals and wildlife populations, and you can help by sponsoring me!
I was personally involved in a rabies vaccination project for dogs in Tanzania in 2006 (see photos on this page), and saw how keen people were to bring their dogs for vaccination, often walking many miles and queuing for hours, motivated by their fear and experience of this disease. Within 2 years of that particular vaccination project the number of people needing hospitalisation for rabid dog bites had fallen by 82%, so projects like this really do make an amazing difference.
I'm not very good at asking for money, and I know that everyone gets lots of requests for sponsorship, but if you could spare a few pounds it would all help, and you will also have the dubious pleasure of receiving updates and photos of how the walk is progressing from February to September!
Thanks for reading!
