We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Hi, my name is Hiten Shah and I come from Asian background, where Family is the most important thing in the world.  We are taught to respect and look after our parents as they are ones who have given us life.  However, when a parent is fighting for their life we wish we can take their pain away from them. My father, Manilal Hemraj Shah, recently passed away on 9 March 2009, after suffering from a stroke.

My father was a Gardener by trade.  He was a friendly and socialable person who always had the time to help others out.  If anyone asked him to help his answer would always be “YES”.  It wouldn’t matter who it was and when it was, he will turn up. Unfortunately, my father never had the opportunity to seek help when he needed it the most.  So in his memory, I have challenged myself to raise a staggering £10,000 for The Stroke Association so that they can further their research and help others who have suffered a stroke.

My Challenge is to run over 100 kilometers over the next 18 months in a variety of races. I have already booked my place at a few races.

So please donate generously and help me to aid others who are suffering from the third biggest killer and the leading cause of severe disability in the UK.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Stroke Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

A Stroke arises from a clot or bleed in the brain, cutting off the blood supply causing brain cells to die.  It is estimated that approximately 150,000 people in theUK have a stroke each year.  Supporting and promoting research into stroke prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and long-term care is an important function of The Stroke Association.

This research is crucial to provide doctors, nurses and other health professionals with evidence to help convince NHS commissioners to develop improved clinical services and care for stroke patients. It is also important that we continue to learn how stroke may be prevented, so that the number of people having their first and subsequent strokes is reduced.

The Stroke Association not only supports its own varied programme of research, but also encourages the Government and other funding bodies to increase their spending on stroke research.
