We Raise funds for skin disease research to help millions of sufferers in the UK

Story

Skin cancer kills 7 people in the UK every day and rates of skin cancer are increasing faster than any other kind of cancer, however, I worry that many people don’t realise how serious and deadly skin cancer can be.

My generation went on holiday to bake in the sun. The phrase ‘no pain, no gain’ was often used and getting burnt was quite normal - this means a huge number of us put ourselves at risk of getting skin cancer.

Being diagnosed with melanoma, a less common but very serious type of skin cancer, is shocking and terrifying, as I am very aware.

Supporting charities that are researching treatments whilst raising awareness of the contributing factors to skin cancer is hugely important to me. In order to raise important funds I am embarking on a write-a-thon.

My write-a-thon… Mother’s Mottos, Mantras & Mutterings (Mmmm): Every day for the next 100 days I will be writing a 'ditty' a day, loosely following the style of senryu, on the subject of Mother’s Mottos, Mantras & Mutterings (Mmmm). Senryu is a form of Japanese poetry with roughly 17 syllables, in a 5,7,5 pattern.

I say loosely following, as the aim of this write-a-thon is to make people smile by bringing a bit of light relief to everyone’s day. This write-a-thon will not be an easy task for me as a mum with three young children - sometimes getting through the day can feel like an endurance test and my free time is non-existent.

I hope you enjoy these Mmmm’s and if so, please help me spread the word and support me along the way.#
