Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In short, Sporting Memories is fantastic and you should donate! Go and do it now!
Long-form; my Grandad, Richard, suffers from Alzheimer's and is in a home.
My Grandad is my all-time hero. There's really too many 'memories' to run through here, but simple things like teaching me to swim and pulling his leg as a kid while he worked on cars will always stay with me and provide me with comfort in the difficult times.
He is an inspiration, the village gentleman, 'Dickie'. Nowhere would you find a bad word said about him.
When he was diagnosed and worsened with his condition, my Grandma – who may well put Mother Theresa to shame – dragged him to many groups, which not only helped to keep him occupied and entertained, but gave my Grandma a valuable support network, vital to keeping her spirits high and her vital questions about what comes next answered.
Groups like Sporting Memories are a key part of the coping mechanism for people with and without series issues, whether that's dementia, loneliness or otherwise.
I hate to run and curse the day Paul O'Neill signed me up. But I'm sure I will be forever grateful to him for doing so. I know that while my Grandfather won't be aware of what I'm doing, my family will be proud and many like him will benefit from the funding Sporting Memories will receive.
Thanks for reading. #ForRichard.
