We help the hospital offer a better future to seriously ill children across the UK

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Initially we decided to take her to our local hospital in Reading where as we arrived at casualty she stopped breathing. The team at Reading managed to revive her but she was seriously ill and we where warned to expect the worst. Over the next few hours the doctors tried to stabilise her and identify what the cause of Amelia’s illness might be.

The decision was taken to move Amelia to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) where more specialist care was available, a specialist Children’s Intensive care ambulance was sent to Reading to collect Amelia, the only two ambulances in the South East of England are based at gosh. The intensive care team at GOSH identified that Amelia had a twisted bowel that had caused her body to effectively close down.

The surgeons identified this issue very quickly and operated on Amelia within a few hours of admission managing to save her bowel. Amelia spent two weeks in intensive care at GOSH where she rebuilt some strength but unfortunately began to have uncontrollable seizers. The prognosis was made that Amelia had suffered a large degree of permanent brain damage and has Cerebra Palsy.

The care at Great Ormond Street was exceptional from all of the wide variety of healthcare professionals we had contact with; we where very luck to have a world renowned centre of excellence for the treatment of Children available to us, and are grateful for the ongoing care Amelia will receive.
Great Ormond Street Hospital is a world-class children’s hospital, with the broadest range of paediatric specialists under one roof anywhere in the UK. They need to raise £50 million each year to maintain this. So please support my run with what ever you can.

Many thanks for your support.
