Story
Thank you for visiting my sponsorship page.
4 years ago almost to the day my mother caught a bacterial strain of meningococcal meningitis. The Doctors gave her only hours to live, and it was as I am sure you can imagine, an extremely stressful and frightening time for my family and friends.
We were very lucky, as Mum managed to recover with the wonderful help of the medical team at Barnet General Hospital. Mum only lost her hearing in one ear. Other sufferers have not been so lucky, and I have since heard of people dying, or having serious disabilities. The infection can strike anybody, but it is more commonly suffered by children and young people.
This year I have a free place in the London Marathon, and I have chosen to run for the Meningitis Trust. The Trust is the UK's Leading meningitis charity, raising awareness of meningitis and septicaemia through an education and training programme and offering practical support for life to people coping with devastating after-effects.
Over the years I have raised almost £15,000 for charity, but I am hoping you would help in raising money for a cause that is very close to my heart. Without the research the Meningitis Trust performs in looking for a vaccine, which does not yet exist, or means in how to spot the infection, my mother may not be here today.
If you could please give generously it would be very much appreciated. Naturally I would be grateful for whatever amount you can give, be it £1, £2 or £10 per mile (the Marathon is 26.2 miles. Its the .2 that is the killer!) All donations are secure and sent electronically to the Meningitis Trust. If you are a UK taxpayer, Just giving will add an automatic 28% bonus to your donation at no cost to you. The Charity gets it back from the Revenue, and anything back from them is as I am sure you agree a good thing! Please join me in supporting The Meningitis Trust and a fabulous cause!
