700 mile Charity Walk · 22 February 2009

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Jos and I are doing the 700 mile from Lowestoft to Lands End over six weeks starting on May 17th 2009 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Parkinsons Disease Society. We will average about 16 miles a day and are looking to raise £10,000 between the two societies. By the time we do the walk both of us will be over 70!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

27/5/09  We are now well en-route, and today left the Icknield Way and joined the Ridgeway. Today was the first real wet day, the others having all been sunny. Our feet are both pretty sore but otherwise all is well, so hopefully we are earning the money you have given or are about to give.Jos has his own fundraising page on behalf of the Parkinson's Disease Society at www.justgiving.com/josgregson

6/6/09 Back home for a week's R & R. Actually so that Jos can sing in  the Verdi Requiem, an opportunity that does not come up too often. Things are going well, the weather has been superlatively kind, and the feet are toughening up at last. I actually walked the last two days without any plasters on. Enormous thanks to all of you who gave us hospitality.. you have been wonderful and it has made it such fun. We are on schedule, having reached the car park on the top of the hill just above Ludwell, just west of Salisbury, and will be resuming from there on Sunday 14/6/09. Then we just have the hard part of the South-West Coast Path to look forward to.

19/6/09   Resumed walking as per plan, and had four more days on the Wessex Ridgeway ... very beautiful, but not an easy route to follow. Then we joined the South-West coast path at Lyme Regis and have now reached Exmouth, so all is going well.

10/7/09  We made it! Got back home on the evening of the 8th. with relief and sadness that it was all over. The last few days seemed to be particularly hard (to me anyway) with the coast path seeming intent on giving us endless ups and downs to wear out the ageing legs. However there were great compensations in wonderful views of rocky coastline and seas, and the weather held up .. only 3½ days rain in the whole 44 days. Thankyou so much to all of you who sponsored us, particularly the ones on the way that we don't know. We hope you read this page, as some have not given us their e-mail, so we cannot thank them personally.
15/10/09 Signing off now so many thanks toyou all
So if you are waiting to see if we completed, we did, so please sponsor me now.  Many thanks to you all,  Jenny
