As many of you will know, earlier this year my mum was taken seriously ill and admitted to Intensive Care as a result of meningitis and septicaemia. After three and a half long months in hospital, she has made a miraculous recovery, considering the severity and potential fatality of the illnesses from which she suffered, despite having all of her fingers and toes amputated due to blood poisoning and circulatory problems.

After witnessing the devastating impact of meningitis and septicaemia, which so often occur together, I have decided to participate in a fun run to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation- a charity which aims to fund investigations into finding vaccinations to protect against these two illnesses. In addition to this, the charity also provides information about symptoms to promote early diagnosis (which is vital to ensure survival), and support to those affected by either meningitis or septicaemia.
