On 26 June, I, with some other mad colleagues, will set out to conquer 25 Lake District peaks in the limited timeframe of 24 hours (over 2 days). Starting at Buttermere and ending in Glenridding, we will battle our way over 53 km with a total ascent of nearly 15,000ft, taking in virtually all the highest and most iconic fells in Lakeland, including the highest point in England at Scafell Pike. To put it in perspective for you, 15,000ft is the equivalent of scaling half the height of Everest! This is your one and only opportunity to sponsor me for anything as I am never doing anything like this again!!
This event is to raise money for Epilepsy Action, which is particularly close to the hearts of many at Mayer Brown due to the tragic and untimely death of one of the firm's trainee solicitors last year, and close to my own because a family friend also died from it recently - in his early 30s.
Epilepsy Action is the largest member-led epilepsy organisation in Britain, acting as the voice for the UK's estimated 456,000 people with epilepsy, as well as their friends, families, carers, health professionals and the many other people on whose lives the condition has an impact. In addition to campaigning to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of the condition, Epilepsy Action offers assistance in a number of ways including a national network of branches, accredited volunteers, regular regional conferences and freephone and email helplines. Epilepsy Action relies on the generosity of the public and businesses for about 90 per cent of its income and as little as £10 would pay for one call to the advice and information freephone helpline and £30 would enable an accredited volunteer to give a presentation in three schools as part of a schools awareness programme.
