Fundraising for Save the Children
Story
Querida familia, amigos y colegas, (ver abajo/see below for Ingles, Catala, deutsch)
Primero que nada, gracias por visitar mi página.
He sido muy afortuntado al ser elegido para un evento extraordinario, el “Global Challenge 2009” de Reckitt Benckiser. Este reto sirve para recaudar fondos para “Save the Children”, una ONG, cuyas intenciones prioritarias son las de ayudar a niños que sufren las consecuencias de la guerra, la pobreza y el hambre cada dia.
Vamos a caminar en la región de Ladakh, en los Himalayas, al norte de India desde el 29 de mayo hasta el 9 de junio del 2009. Visitaremos el nuevo centro educativo que Save the Children está construyendo en Ladakh y que estamos apoyando a través de este evento.
Además de ser un gran reto, ésta es una oportunidad única y emocionante. Por un lado requiere de un entrenamiento físico muy específico durante los próximos 8 meses (la mayoría de vosotros sabeis que mis esfuerzos deportivos son casi nulos... y vamos a hacer senderismo en una altitud de entre 4,000 y 5,000 metros). Pero también significa tener el valor de haceros una simple petición:
Todos los participantes tenemos que recaudar un mínimo de £2,500, que yo he subido a £3,500. Por favor patrocinadme y ayudadme a salvar y mejorar las vidas de aquellos niños que más lo necesitan. Solo £10 (12,90 EUR) pueden salvar la vida de un niño proporcionandole salud e higiene adecuadas (por ejemplo £10 es el precio de un mosquitero que puede prevenir que un niño contraiga la malaria en Tanzania)
Por supuesto, si podéis permitiros más, yo no me enojaré!
Para aquellos de vosotros que sois un poco escépticos en cuanto a las recaudaciones de fondos (si, sé que estáis ahi) os aseguro que el 100% de vuestra donación irá directamente a proyectos de “Save the Children”: 50% de lo recaudado será para el proyecto que visitaremos en Ladakh, el otro 50% se dividirá equitativamente entre proyectos específicos en Angola y Tanzania.

first of all thanks a lot for visiting my homepage.
I have been very lucky to be chosen for an extraordinary event, the Reckitt Benckiser’s “Global challenge 2009”. With this fundraising event we support “Save the Children”, a NGO, whose primary intentions are to help children that suffer the consequences of war, poverty and starvation every day.
We will trek in the Ladakh region of the Himalayas in Northern India from May 29 to June 9 2009. It will complete with a visit of Save the Children's vital work in the Ladakh region, above all a new education centre which we support through the fundraising behind this trek.
This is an exciting, once in a lifetime opportunity whilst being a true challenge. On the one hand it requires a specific physical training in the next 8 months (most of you know that my Sport efforts are pretty lousy… and we will be trekking at high altitudes between 4,000 and 5,000 metres). But it’s also about getting up the courage to make this simple request:
All participants are expected to raise a minimum amount of £ 2,500 which I have raised to £ 3.500. Please sponsor me and help to save and improve the lives of those children who are most vulnerable and most in need. Just £10 (12,90 EUR) can save one child’s life by providing adequate health & hygiene (for example £10 is the price for a mosquito net in Tanzania which can prevent a child from catching malaria).
Of course, if you can afford more – I will not punish you!
For those of you who may be sceptical about this sort of fundraising (yes, I know you're out there) please note that 100% of your donation will go directly to Save the Children's projects: 50% to the project we will visit in Ladakh, 50% will be split equally between specific Save the Children projects in Angola and Tanzania.

He estat molt afortunat en ser escollit per un esdeveniment extraordinari, el "Global Challenge 2009" de Reckitt Benckiser. Aquest repte serveix per recollir fons per "Save the Children", una ONG que té per prioritat ajudar als nens que pateixen les conseqüències de la guerra, la pobresa i la gana cada dia.
Caminarem per la regió de Ladakh, a l’Himàlaia (nord de l’Índia) des del 29 de maig fins el 9 de juny del 2009. Allà visitarem el nou centre educatiu que Save the Children està construint a Ladakh i que estem recolzant a través d’aquest esdeveniment.
A més de ser un gran repte, aquesta és sens dubte una oportunitat única i emocionant. D’una banda requereix d’un entrenament físic molt específic durant els pròxims 8 mesos (la majoria de vosaltres sabeu que els meus esforços a nivell esportiu son gairebé nuls... i farem senderisme a una altitud d’entre 4.000 i 5.000 metres). I d’altra banda també significa tenir el valor de fer-vos una simple petició:
Tots els participants al repte hem de recol·lectar un mínim de £2,500, que jo he pujat a £3,500. Us demano siusplau que em patrocineu i que m’ajudeu a salvar i millorar les vides d’aquells nens que més ho necessiten. Només £10 (12,90€) poden ajudar a salvar la vida d’un nen proporcionant-li les condicions de salut i higiene bàsiques (p.e. el cost d’un mosquiter que pot prevenir que un nen contregui la malària a Tanzània és de £10).
Per suposat, si podeu permetre-us més, tampoc m’hi enutjaré!
Per aquells de vosaltres que sou una mica escèptics quant a les recol·lectes de fons (sí, sé que hi sou) us asseguro que el 100% de la vostra donació anirà directament a projectes de "Save the Children": el 50% del que recol·lectem serà pel projecte que visitarem a Ladakh i l’altre 50% es dividirà equitativament entre projectes específics a Angola i Tanzània.

Ich bin sehr glücklich, dass ich ausgewählt wurde für ein ganz besonderes Event, die “Reckitt Benckiser Global Challenge 2009”. Mit diesem Event unterstützen wir „Save the Children“, eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die vornehmlich den Kindern hilft, die unter den Folgen von Krieg, Armut und Hunger leiden.
Wir werden einen Trek in der Himalaya Region Ladakh’s im Norden von Indien vom 29. May bis zum 9. Juni veranstalten. Höhepunkt dieses Treks wird ein Besuch von Save the Children’s wichtigstem Projekt sein, einem neuen Bildungszentrum für Kinder, das wir mit diesem Trek unterstützen.
Dies ist gleichzeitig eine einmalige Gelegenheit sowie eine große Herausforderung für mich. Einerseits bedarf es eines gezielten Trainings in den nächsten 8 Monaten (die meisten von Euch wissen, wir lausig mein derzeitiges Sportprogramm aussieht… und wir werden in Höhen von 4000-5000 Metern wandern). Andererseits geht es für mich auch darum, tief einzuatmen… und mit der folgenden Bitte an Euch heranzutreten:
Jeder Teilnehmer ist aufgefordert, Spenden in Höhe von mindestens £ 2,500 einzusammeln, was ich für mich auf £ 3,500 erhoeht habe. Bitte unterstützt mich dabei und helft mir, das Leben der Kinder zu verbessern, die es am meisten bedürfen. Schon £10 (12,90 EUR) können das Leben eines Kindes retten durch die Schaffung entsprechender Gesundheit und Hygiene (£10 sind beispielsweise die Kosten für Moskitonetze für eine ganze Familie zur Vorbeugung von Malaria)
Und wenn Ihr mehr geben könnt, werde ich natürlich auch nicht böse sein.
Für diejenigen von Euch, die einer solchen Sammelaktion skeptisch gegenüber sind (ich weiss, dass Ihr da draussen seid :-): ich kann Euch garantieren, dass 100% Eurer Spende direkt an Save the Children Projekte gehen: 50% an das Projekt, das wir in Ladakh besuchen werden, die anderen 50% werden zwischen Projekten in Angola und Tanzania aufgeteilt.
