Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2016, our family lost the eldest of my five sisters, Linda, having been
diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease just the year before.

Having little awareness of the disease at that time, it was heart-breaking
for us to see the devastating impact MND has - the horrifying pace of
progressive paralysis that robbed her of the physical capacity to eventually move, communicate, swallow and breathe independantly, essentially 'locked' inside her own body yet having full capacity of mind and senses - most people's worst nightmare. However, she humbled us all with her amazing courage, humour and dignity throughout with the knowledge that:

- there was, and still is, no cure and no significant advance in
treatment used in the last 22 years.

- that MND kills a third within a year and over half within 2 years of
diagnosis.

With no government funding and therefore wholly reliant on voluntary
donations for access to care, support and much needed research, the following
are a few examples of how our donations can help MNDA do what they do:

- £5 provides an information pack for a newly diagnosed person with MND.

- £100 funds laboratory equipment for two days vital research into finding out the causes of MND.

- £200 provides a basic level of respite care for a day which is much needed for those family and friends who help provide the 24/7 care inevitably needed.

- £550 funds the installation of a straight stair lift and initial 6 months rental.

Since running the GNR that year to raise funds, I have seen more of the
amazing work and support that the association provides since taking up a volunteering role of an Association Visitor for the MNDA. This has inspired me to
pick up my running shoes again to run the GNR this year on the 9th September
to raise more funds.

My hope is that you have the time to follow the link to the MNDA webpage that aims to raise awareness of the needs of people with MND and everyone who cares for them and, as importantly, the need for ongoing research.
