Story

Thank you for visiting this fundraising page. As you will know Jon Sim, the founder of Cisco's UK Healthcare Team back in 1999, died last year after a courageous battle against illness at the age of 41.

Jon leaves behind his wife Catherine, and four children, Oliver, Arthur, Harriet and George.

Jon was a great guy and much of the success that Cisco and our partners are currently enjoying in FY04 is down to the work that Jon instigated from 1999 onwards.

We in Cisco's UK Healthcare Team, along with some who had also worked with Jon, have decided to attempt a climb of Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, on Saturday June 12th 2004 in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief who did so much to support Jon and his family during his illness.

Ok so the photograph on this webpage is of Everest but believe me Scafell Pike will seem like Everest to some of us taking part on June 12th. Long odds are already available against certain members of the party making it to the top and back! After all this is an 11 mile climb to a height of 978m above sea level! Whilst we may be the Healthcare Team that does not necessarily imply that we are the healthiest of teams. Time will tell, as will the digital cameras!

There will be 21 Cisco employees attempting the climb (full list at the end of this message), accompanied by wives/husbands/partners/children. In all a total of 50 people will be tackling the climb. I am delighted that Catherine and Jon's eldest two sons, Oliver and Arthur, will also be climbing with us. We also plan to toast Jon on the Saturday evening in Ambleside in a manner to which he would certainly have approved......though hopefully no Little Chef Early Starters on the menu! The Cisco UK Civic Council have kindly offered up to $20,000 matched funding of money raised by Cisco employees via this website. So please give as generously as you possibly can and lets maximise the money available from the Civic Council. In addition to this site, money is also being raised from some of our UK Healthcare Customers, our UK Healthcare Partners....who have already pledged more than £2000....and from friends and family of the climbers taking part. Money raised from outside of Cisco is not eligible for the matched funding. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Macmillan Cancer Relief will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor us now! And please be as generous as you can for this great cause in memory of a great guy! Cisco employees taking part are: Simon Culmer, Terry Espiner, Steve Bennett, Martin Butler, Dave Park, Graham Small, Mike Badham, Mark Jackson, Harvey Lang, Mubashir Mirza, Brett Acton, Chris Blenkhorn, Martin James, Clare Newnam, John McCormack, Ed Powell, Andrew Usherwood, Gary Platts, Russell Charlton, Pete Chambers, Paul King. Many thanks for your support.
