Story
After being diagnosed with Stage 3 Oesophageal Cancer T3N2M0 6th April 2019 at the Whittington, I contacted the OPA for information about the cancer and the surgery "cure". The OPA opened my eyes to the treatment and its after effects, although I had first hand experience as Dad died from OC in 1998. Mum, his full time carer, was a saint, looking after him day and night. Needless to say, I said bugger to that "cure". I would keep my oesophagus and stomach no matter how good the survivors stories were, there had to be a better way. After 3 lots of FLOT chemotherapy (vintage 1948 !!) in 2019, which was something never to be repeated for both me and my wife Judith, I had a call to arms . 40 books later and some great info from my golf colleagues, cancer survivors, support from my family, my brothers and sister, my work colleagues and employer UBS, I realised the only way to lower my golf handicap in 2020 and break 80 was to keep my Oesophagus and Stomach and get some help from the wise old sages, out in the big bad world and that 2000 year old knowledge base. The Hole in One Jan 4th 2020 Medal Comp, witnessed by Nick and Adio, cemented my decision, I am a very lucky/happy man indeed. My Mother the Golfer knew her own mind , god rest her soul, and would have been delighted to share the news. So here I am in 2020, a bit fitter, running 10k for the first time in 40 years for the OPA. The OPA provide information to raise awareness of Oesophageal Cancer and help to cope after the "Ivor Lewis" 1970's surgery and need finances to get the message out on how to avoid Oesophageal Cancer and help survivors and their families after surgery and radiotherapy. If you have reflux, look at what you eat/drink and go and see your GP pronto. So put a few bob in the coffers and lets get the message out to folks. Thank you in advance for your contribution and good luck in the roaring 20's.
