Picture the scene. It is October 8th, 2009. I will find myself at the start of a 200K endurance foot race through the depths of the Amazon Jungle. The temperature is around 30 ˚C, humidity at 90% and I am carrying everything I will need for the next seven days including medical packs, food, water and hammocks. Ahead of me lies many challenges; rivers, streams, swamps, dense jungle, intense terrain, and the small matter of avoiding the local wildlife. Not the usual foxes, rabbits and blue tits we are used to England but poisonous insects, spiders, snakes, alligators and jaguars that lurk within the dense greenery that will surround me.
All of this I will take in my stride to take my place alongside the competitors who will finish the 2009 Jungle Marathon in the state of Para, Brazil.
WHY?
Firstly because I am a little bit mad! But mainly because I am hoping to raise funds for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. This Hospice is close to my heart as it provided tender care for my Aunt who was taken before her time.
Phyllis Tuckwell provides a high quality service at no cost to those in need. With daily costs exceeding 10 000 pounds the hospice relies heavily on donations, with up to 88% coming from fundraising events such as this.
Please dig deep and sponsor us now, your help will get us through the darker moments of our training and help the Hospice continue to provide the care for those in need.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
