Story
Hi, my name is Katie and I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my story.....
I look at myself in the mirror as a 'normal' 14 year old girl, I enjoy Drama, playing with my friends and swimming the only difference is all these things take me a little bit longer than some, see I was born with Cerebral Palsy, for those who don't know, its a lifelong condition which affects the movement and co-ordination which is caused by a bleed on the brain because I was born at 28 weeks.
I have had 5 major surgeries to help me walk, the last one was January 2019, I'm due to have another one this year, I have metal rods in my legs and they need taking out. After every surgery I have had to learn how to walk a different way, Its been very difficult for me to live a "normal" life but I try the best I can, in 2018 I ran The Great Manchester run 2.5k and raised money for my ongoing physiotherapy, Then in 2019 In October I ran Stockport Family run 1K, now Im older I have started to look at my disability different, I try and use it as a platform to raise awareness and to show people what it is like to live with Cerebral Palsy to show the struggles and the ups and downs. Every time I run it takes me about 5 days to recover, someone with out Cerebral Palsy who trains can run quite easily but its for me its twice as hard. I love a good challenge and Im really excited to run 2K!!!!
I want to Fundraise for a charity that is so close to my heart Stockport CP society are a local Chairty to me that helps thousands of people who are living with cerebral palsy. It would mean to the world to me to raise as much money as I can for this amazing charity.
Stockport CP Society helps local disabled people to live life to the full. We offer community support, residential care, day services and leisure groups, and we work with children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. We help disabled people join in, make friends, achieve new things, and live as active and independent a life as possible
