Here at Bolt Burdon Kemp, we support Penniwells, part of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Coco, the pony that we sponsor, is photographed wearing his fetching BBK rug!
As child brain injury solicitors, we have all seen the powerful benefits that horse riding and hippotherapy has provided to our young clients. Physical benefits include the strengthening of core muscles and the development of motor skills. Psychological benefits include reducing anxiety, depression and building self-esteem.
Penniwells is home to 13 horses and ponies. Every week, 140 riders enjoy lessons in riding and stable management. Penniwells welcomes riders of all ages and with all degrees of disability including Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Down's Syndrome, sight or hearing difficulties and behavioural problems. Many of Penniwells’ students start riding as children and stay with them into adulthood.
Penniwells provides a tailored approach to each of its students ensuring that all riders are taught to the best of their ability. Students are encouraged to progress and the centre travels around the country to attend national competitions.
Sadly, due to Covid-19 Penniwells has been closed since 17th March 2020. Penniwells relies heavily on donations and the impact of this closure will be huge for the centre. Fundraising for this wonderful charity is vital so that when things do return to normal it can continue to operate, providing an invaluable service to its many riders.
