Story
Dear Friend,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am delighted to report that the ride went very well and has been safely and successfully completed. A big thankyou to all who have chosen to sponsor me. You can read an account of our ride at www.lejog4.com and see some video clips that we have posted.
I shall be setting off from Land's End on Wednesday 5 May to cycle over 1000 miles to John O'Groats in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
As part of a small group of "fiftysomethings" we hope to cycle about one hundred miles a day for ten days. We were not serious cyclists but have now spent the last year getting ready for this epic journey.
Eighteen months ago I was shocked to learn I had a rare form of cancer known as Acral Lentiginous Melanoma. There is no cure (yet) other than to chop away the offending bits. I was lucky. I had a dermatologist that knew what she was looking at and a surgeon who cut deep enough first time. I only lost the end of a finger. Left unchecked this form of cancer can spread very quickly.
That is why I am now choosing to support Macmillan.
Macmillan Cancer support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They fund nurses and other health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help. As treatments improve more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. this means they need more than just medical help, they also need practical, emotional and financial support.
So now I am asking for your help.
Please sponsor my ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. I know I can cycle a hundred miles in a day. I don't know if I can do that day after day for ten days but I'm going to find out pretty soon.
Please think of my saddle sores and dig deep to make every mile worthwhile.
Thank you for your support.
