Story
The Lexden Springs PTFA are trying to raise £20,000 to fund new vehicles for the children at Lexden Springs School. The children that attend the special needs school in colchester all have severe disabilities and learning needs, including Autism, Cerbal Palsy, Sensory Processioning Difficulties, Down Syndrome to name a few of many disabilities and medical conditions. The school currently has 120 pupils which will increase to 200 when they move to their new building in winstree road, stanway in september.
The vehicles are essential in ensuring the children can take part in weekly trips and work experience placement, but due to a shortage in transport some children are struggling to get out.
At the moment we have three minibuses of varying ages and each class is timetabled a time to go out into the community to visit the zoo, parks, beach, garden centres etc but with pupil numbers growing in September more vehicles are desperately needed for the school to be able to continue to offer this to every class. An activity that all children in the school look forward to each week.
We need to fundraise to buy new vehicles to accommodate pupil numbers and slowly replace the ageing vehicles we have had for many many years. We also want to buy a people carrier so our older students can get to work experience placements, to give them much needed life skills for when they leave us at 19 years old.
Where possible we do use public transport but by having these much needed vehicles it will give us more freedom to explore new activities further away.
We will be holding various fundraisers alongside our just giving page including a fun run planned towards the end of the year when we are in the new school. Many parents are helping to fundraise with bake sales, sponsored runs, book sales and raffles.
Please give whatever you can every penny will help us reach our target and provide the much needed vehicles the school needs
