Ric and I are taking part in the Longmynd Hike to raise funds and awareness for BBS UK. The route covers 50 miles over the Shropshire Hills with almost 10'000 ft of ascent and most of this takes place at night!
My brother Joseph was diagnosed with LMBBS from an early age. He is the youngest of four in our family. LMBB Syndrome is a rare, recessively inherited disorder which affects approximately 1 in 100,000 babies born. In order for a child to be affected, both parents must carry the recessive gene. If both parents are carriers, there is a 1 in 4 chance with every pregnancy of passing on both defective genes to the baby, resulting in LMBB Syndrome.
There is no cure at present. Joe, like many other sufferers has to adapt to the challenges and frustrations that the syndrome presents. Visual impairment and ultimately blindness as well as obesity, developmental delay and other health problems that are all features of LMBB Syndrome.
Please help us to raise awareness and funds by giving your support.
