Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I decided to train for and run the British 10k for 2 very special people close to me who were both diagnosed with brain tumours in the last few months.

Darling little Keira Lee, my little girls buddy, and youngest daughter of my dear friend Kirsty became an angel only a week after being diagnosed. You can read Keira's story here http://www.justgiving.com/keiralee  I run in memory of Keira xxx

Ian Lester (42), my brother-in-law was diagnosed in September 2013. Having suffered a suspected stroke whilst on holiday abroad in August, and spending some time in ICU there, he returned to the UK to be advised that the scan images, together with the sequence of events, didn't suggest a stroke and therefore further scans were arranged. In September Ian received the news that he had a brain tumour. Ian had surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible in November. Histology results confirmed a grade 2 Oligodendroglioma. Ian will now have MRI scans routinely to monitor the tumour's activity. I run in support and admiration of Ian xxx

Until 6 months ago I had very little understanding of brain tumours. I knew they could be benign or malignant. That was where my knowledge ended. I would prefer to still be ignorant to be honest, but the sequence of events over the last 6 months has taught me a lot, about tumours, and also about life. Brain tumours are not just determined by their malignancy or size, other factors like type, subtype, grade, position, age/health of person etc all play a part.

I know enough to understand that Brain Tumour research is seriously under-funded. There is so much work to be done and I truly want to make a difference. I am not fit, running 10k will be a challenge for me, but I will do it for Keira, for Ian, for their lovely families and for all those people out there facing the unimaginable xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the diagnosis, treatment and management of brain tumours. Over £500 million is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 2% is spent on brain tumours

Thank you for helping me achieve my target xxxxx
