Story
During the Easter weekend, the Lymphoma Association Rugby Team - The Periwinkles - won the Bi-Annual International Rugby Festival hosted by Overton Rugby Club in Hampshire beating sides from Germany, France, Holland and Scotland.
On Saturday 28th of April 2007 at Hitchin RFC we also narrowly (21-19)retained the Robin Thorpe Memorial Trophy, for the fifth consecutive year, which was presented by Stuart Ince, representing the charity.
Andy Piper, team captain and birthday boy received the trophy along with a signed shirt from Saracens & England legend Richard Hill from Club Captain Karl Thorpe and the team.
Thanks go to Hitchin Chairman Pete Tasko and First XV Captain Dale Baines for facilitating the event and putting out a team that played in great spirit and were a credit to the club.
The Winkles would also like to thank everyone that turned out to support and contributed to a great day and to everyone that has sponsored us and helping us exceed our fundraising target by such a staggering margin.
Personal thanks from me to all the guys that wore the shirt with such pride and dedication, you know who you are.
Top effort!
Karl - Club Captain
