Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am going to jump out of an aeroplane - whilst at the same time raising money for a local charity!

I am taking part in a specially organised Parachute Jump Day on Saturday 12th May at Hinton Airfield in Brackley for Willen Hospice.

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet.  The noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below.

Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go - falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling.

Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, the steering toggles come down either side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below.

Well now I can stop imagining - because it's real - and I am doing it on Saturday 12th May 2007!

Technically the jump is called a 'Tandem Skydive'.

Tandem because I will be harnessed to a professional parachute instructor at all times throughout the descent.

And Skydive - as I will be freefalling through the air (without the parachute deployed) for several thousand feet at up to 120mph!

This is the chance of a lifetime and I can’t wait!!

Willen Hospice is a registered charity that provides specialist care for people whose illness no longer responds to curative treatment.

They work in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas and are based at a quiet lakeside area close to the City Centre.

They provide care for people from the age of 18 years upwards and care focuses on four key areas - specialist symptom control, emotional support, spiritual support & care for the carers.

Their services are provided 24 hours a day without any cost to the patient or their families. Their support extends beyond the Hospice itself where they care for over 600 patients each year.

Their Day Hospice, Social Care, Community Nursing and Specialist Support teams, Bereavement Support and Carers Group enable them to reach many other patients, together with their families, friends and carers.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Willen Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please dig deep and sponsor me online now!  Many thanks for your support and wish me luck!!
