Story

Update 19.2.10 - I'm back.  It has been an incredible journey, full of joy and laughter, tears, pain and exhaustion.  The most salutory moment was at the end of the trip when, just as we were celebrating completing the challenge, someone said 'shush' and we all stood in silence as a child's funeral cortege passed by.  Cheryl's zest for life stays with me.  Thanks to all of you who've donated and if you are reading this as you add your donation - thank you SO MUCH!!

Update 31.1.10 - with just 5 days to go.... doing well, keeping up the training.  Did 25 miles yesterday in two hours in the freezing cold.  Apart from frostbite of the right toes, all ok!!  Looking forward to a temperature body shock next week....

Update 15.1.10 - with just 3 weeks to go, I am work harding on this training business.  I'm currently doing Spin on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, Pump on Wednesday and Circuits on Tuesday.  My alcohol consumption has decreased dramatically!!  This is supposed to be good for me (I've been told it's not - the exercise that is!)

Hi. Thanks for finding my fundraising page.

I must be mad, mad, mad doing this again!  I'm cycling 680km across Costa Rica, from Panama to Nicaragua, 200km further than I've ever done before and camping.  I'll be looking somewhat more dishevelled than in this photo!  However it is for Macmillan Cancer Support  and I need your help to meet the £3,500 target.

When diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer, my friend Cheryl, aged only 40, chose life and in the 12 months she had left, did almost everything that she had ever wanted to do.  Her energy, drive and zest for life was inspirational and in many ways her death gave me the courage to follow my current business path.  She fought her corner right to the end, and with the help of Macmillan Nurses, stayed stubbornly put at home and ended her days in familiar surroundings.

Cheryl sits in my thoughts.  Sometimes I think she's right there with me sitting on my shoulder watching what I'm doing and driving me on.  Sometimes you need to give something back and that is why I decided to cycle for Macmillan.

Thank you so much for your donation - it means a lot to me.

Lyn
