Story
In 2003 my eldest sister Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 39. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy which seemed to have removed the cancer. Over the next few years Rachel had regular scans to monitor her health and in August 2007 the cancer was again detected, this time in her liver. Her treatment was an aggressive course of chemotherapy in an effort to keep the cancer at bay.
Rachel has been impressed by the support offered by a charity called Breast Cancer Care. The charity offers practical and emotional support and information to the individual affected by cancer, their partners and their families.
On May 8th 2009 I will be attempting to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats on a solo cycle ride. The overall distance will be in the region of 950 miles which I am hoping to complete in the two weeks I have taken off work! I am a novice cyclist but felt that a challenge of this nature would show Rachel how much we think of her, how proud we are of her, and would raise money for a charity which Rachel has found supportive.
If you felt you were able to sponsor me in this event, your contribution, however small, would be much appreciated.
I hope you are able to help.
Thanks,
Martin
UPDATE
Well I made it.
At 2.15pm on Thursday 21st May; 13 days, 1006 miles, one bike seat, two punctures, one spoke, one set of rear brakes and a lot of pedalling after starting, I managed to finish.
I received lots of good wishes on the way via cards, emails, phone calls and text messages which was an enormous help.
I am very grateful for your support which helped raise a total of over £5000.00 for Breast Cancer Care.
Both Rachel and I have been very touched by your support and kind comments.
Thanks again,
Martin
