Well as a glutton for punishment I have decided to do the Manchester 10K run again this year in aid of Diabetes UK.

As I am sure most of you know my dad has Diabetes and so I have learned quite a bit about it over the years.  What I think a lot of people don't realise about Diabetes is just how serious it can be and all the other complications that can stem from it.  It can be a life threatening condidtion and if not properly controlled can cause long term complications such as heart and kidney disease, problems with the eyes, nerves and circulation. My dad has spent a lot of time in hospital especially recently and so I have spent quite a bit of time there too!  One of things that really brought it home to me on a recent visit was a man in his 40s who had suffered kidney failure and had also just had his leg amputated.  It was pretty upsetting to see and made me realise just how badly people living with Diabetes can be affected. 

I have chosen Diabetes UK as it's a charity my dad would love me to support.  My dad was a really sporty and active person in his day so for him to be laid up in hospital for 5 months is about the worst thing that could happen to him. l will be thinking of him on the day and how much he would love to be running it too to spur me on!
