We provide UK-wide support and information to improve life after brain injury

Story

Alone, Paralysed and Stranded!

Michael Shiel was severely injured in a car crash on 31st December in Manila. His fiancé and baby son died but his daughter aged two miraculously survived.

Michael is now paralysed from the neck down and has severe head injuries; he lays in a bed in a foreign country wondering if he will be able to get back to the UK to bring up his daughter.

His mother who is 88 is petrified that we will not be able to bring him home.

Can you help?

In amongst the entire medical trauma Michael is aware of his families’ loss and that he couldn’t even go to their funerals. At this point he has not been able to visit their graves.

He tried to renew his travel insurance online but circumstances meant that the internet connection failed, leaving his family to pay all the bills for his stay in hospital and his eventual repatriation to the UK.

However, with love and support from friends and family and
a daughter who needs him, hopefully he will regain a purpose in life.

Can you Help?

Our thanks to the family and friends who have rallied round so far, and with your help, we hope to bring Michael home with his daughter Elizabeth by Easter.

Our special thanks to Headway for working with us and to the BBC Inside Out programme who have helped publicise our plight.
