Story
Hi Guys!
As some of you know, I am taking part in the London Marathon in April 2011 to raise money for the PSP association. My reason for doing this is to raise the profile of the charity and hopefully some money towards the research and work that they do.
My run is in memory of a fantastic man, Martin Hurst, my friends Dad, who was diagnosed with PSP and fought a long and brave battle with the condition. Martin was such a positive person; always laughing, joking around and doing things for others, and I'm sure he will be laughing at me every step of my 26.7 miles (and the state I'm in by the end)! But this is what will keep me running....
Martin sadly passed away from the devastating condition PSP on 10th February 2010 aged just 55. He was first diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in June 2008. It is a terminal condition with life expectancy on average 7 years from onset. Martin lost his fight after rapidly deteriorating in the last year but he still kept his fantastic sense of humour and positive attitude right until the end.
PSP is a very rare devastating brain condition that progressively robs those affected of their ability to balance, walk, talk, swallow or see, and unable to communicate with the world around them, yet the mind remains unaffected. Currently there is no effective treatment and no cure for PSP. The cause of it is unknown and it can strike anyone although it tends to appear in the over forties.
I hope to raise as much as possible for the PSP association for research and hopefully one day a cure so please give generously.
