Lands End to John O Groats - solo cycle challenge
This is a solo unassisted cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats (the most South Westerly to the most North Easterly points of the British mainland), a distance of about 880 miles (1420km) - generally considered the greatest cycling challenge in the UK. I have set myself an ambitious target of 7 days to complete this challenge - an average of 125 miles (200km) per day. I depart Land's End on Monday 22 June, if all goes according to plan I'll be in John O'Groats Sunday 28 June.
Many of you will know me as a keen cyclist, but this is a challenge I've wanted to do since I was about 18 - this is finally my time!
My route has been planned with Google maps (I hope I don't regret it) - here's my route. My longest day will be day 6 - 157 miles (253km)!
This ride is intended to be jointly in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and St. Michael's, Bray Emergency Appeal (Registered Charity No. 1070040). To make life simple, all online donations will be for Marie Curie, and offline donations will be for St. Michael's, Bray Emergency Appeal.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. I've set myself a target of £1 per mile :)
So please sponsor me now!
I'll be travelling quite low tech, but my wife will be taking over my blog for your amusement. Please sponsor me and come back and follow my progress from Sunday 21 June.
My blog is here.
A GPS track of my ride (in fragments) should be here.
